Where will the laundry basket be placed?

• Will it stand freely in the room? Choose one that matches the style of the rest of the room. Not everyone places a dirty laundry basket in the bathroom – it may also be part of a bedroom or a children’s room.

• Will it be part of bathroom furniture? Some bathroom cabinets already offer a special compartment where you can easily place a laundry basket. 

• Will it be in the bathroom? In that case, you need to pay attention to the material it is made from, especially if it stands outside a cabinet. It must withstand moisture and the occasional water on the floor. A thermoplastic laundry basket is a good choice (it often comes with feet), or a fabric laundry basket with a metal frame. A laundry basket may also have an MDF structure, while the inner part (a cotton bag) is removable.

Dimensions

Carefully measure the space where you want to place the laundry basket. If you are planning to put it inside a cabinet, also measure the height of the space. If the dirty laundry basket stands outside, it should have a lid so that you maintain not only visual neatness, but also prevent unpleasant odours from spreading. Cabinet laundry baskets can also be hanging. They use either hooks or even Velcro for this. Such laundry baskets are usually fabric, and their size changes depending on how much laundry you fit into them. They are particularly suitable for smaller items such as socks, underwear, and handkerchiefs…

Material and construction

As we have already suggested, there are textile, polyester, plastic, thermoplastic, wicker, bamboo, and rattan laundry baskets... They may be free-standing, or equipped with a solid frame on which the bag is suspended. They may also come with wheels or feet. The range of designs is also wide, so you can easily choose the one that suits you best. 

Ready for washing

Manufacturers also think practically. It is clear that dirty laundry not only needs to be placed into the basket conveniently, but also moved to the washing machine. That is why laundry baskets also have handles or grips, making them easy to move wherever you need. Some are even foldable. You can make life even easier by choosing a laundry basket that allows sorting by colour or material. This saves time. Do not forget to get a practical plastic basket as well, where you can place the laundry after taking it out of the washing machine. If you do not have much space, a foldable silicone basket may come in handy.
