How to choose a stick vacuum?

Stick vacuums can be corded or battery-powered. A corded stick vacuum provides continuous power and is suitable for longer cleaning sessions in larger spaces. Battery-powered models offer mobility and flexibility, which is useful for quick cleanups or areas without a nearby power outlet.

Key parameters for cordless vacuums:

• Battery type – most battery-powered models use lithium-ion batteries. These provide high energy density, stable performance, and long lifespan. Some models offer quick-swap batteries for extended cleaning sessions.
• Battery capacity – measured in Ah (ampere-hours). Higher capacity means longer runtime and the ability to clean larger areas without recharging. Typical values range from 1.5 Ah to 3 Ah for household models and up to 4 Ah for more powerful cordless variants.
• Runtime and charging time – runtime depends on battery capacity and suction intensity. Standard models usually run 20–60 minutes. Lithium-ion batteries typically charge in 3–5 hours, and some models support fast charging.

Type and capacity of the dust container

Stick vacuums are available in bagged and bagless models. Bagged stick vacuums offer a hygienic solution – dust is collected in a replaceable bag. Container volumes range from 0.3–0.8 L for home models and up to 1 L for more powerful 2-in-1 variants. The downside is the need to buy replacement bags. Bagless models have a dustbin that can be emptied and rinsed after each use.

Power rating

The power rating is key to vacuum performance. Corded models typically range from 400–700 W, while battery-powered models have lower rated power but optimized motors make them effective.

Suction power

Suction power determines the vacuum’s ability to effectively remove dust and debris. Modern stick vacuums range from 10–25 kPa. High-suction models handle smooth floors, carpets, and upholstery efficiently.

For corded models, cable lengths are usually 5–8 m, providing sufficient reach without frequent unplugging. Cordless models are not limited by cable length; their operating radius corresponds to battery runtime.
